Waterside Laboratories has been appointed as the UK distributor of bespoke eyewear system, 3DNA.
The software, which was developed by the Hong Kong-based optical solutions company Eye-DNA, takes a 3D face scan of the consumer, who then works with an optical professional to design a bespoke piece of eyewear.
Frames can be produced in materials such as Mazzucchelli acetate, titanium and stainless steel, as well as stone, mother-of-pearl and recycled vinyl.
Joint managing director of Waterside Laboratories, Bob Forgan, said: “I really believe this is the future of true bespoke eyewear. Not only can wearers assist in the design of their eyewear, they actually have the ability to see how it will look on them before they place their order. Fit is guaranteed, just the same as if you visited a Savile Row tailor. Every element is truly bespoke to create frames and sunglasses that are as unique as the individuals that wear them.”
Mr Forgan shared that 3DNA captures accurate pupillary distances, fitting heights and panto angles in order to ensure that the company can produce and supply lenses that incorporate these measurements.
Speaking to OT at 100% Optical last month (12–14 January, ExCeL London), co-founder of Eye-DNA, Dennis Zelazowski, said: “People in Europe, and especially in the UK, are very fluent in the language of bespoke. When we introduce it they already know what the general idea is, so when we unveil these new tools, it makes it much more impressive that they can do it rapidly, easily and creatively.”
